Beyond the Clinic: Expanding Access to Speech Therapy in Our Community

Making speech therapy more accessible for local families, one partnership at a time.

Finding time for speech therapy can be challenging, especially when after-school appointments are in high demand. At The Speech and Language Center (SLC), we’re helping families overcome this challenge by bringing speech therapy directly to participating daycares and private schools in Rockingham County, Loudoun County, and surrounding communities.

These partnerships allow children to receive speech therapy during their regular school or daycare day without parents needing to arrange transportation to and from the clinic. For families waiting for an after-school appointment, this may also provide an opportunity to begin services sooner.

Making Speech Therapy More Convenient for Families

We understand that balancing school, work, extracurricular activities, and appointments isn’t always easy. That’s why we’ve developed partnerships with local daycares and private schools to provide another option for accessing speech therapy.

Our speech-language pathologists travel to participating locations to provide outpatient speech therapy services. Children can receive the support they need while remaining in their familiar daycare or school setting.

These partnerships offer several benefits:

  • More scheduling options: Daytime appointments may offer an alternative to highly requested after-school clinic times.
  • Less travel for families: Parents don’t have to leave work or transport their child to a separate therapy appointment.
  • Minimal disruption: Children can receive therapy without leaving their daycare or school for an outside appointment.
  • Familiar surroundings: Services take place in an environment where children already spend much of their day.
  • Insurance coverage: These are outpatient speech therapy services, and families may use their health insurance benefits, depending on their plan.

Supporting Students in Our Local Public Schools

In addition to our daycare and private school partnerships, The Speech And Language Center contracts with three public school divisions in the Shenandoah Valley to support their speech-language services:

  • Rockingham County Public Schools
  • Harrisonburg City Public Schools
  • Page County Public Schools

Through these partnerships, our speech-language pathologists work with school divisions to support students’ communication needs and access to educational services.

Unlike our outpatient speech therapy services at daycares and private schools, these services are provided through contracts with the public school divisions and are not billed to families’ health insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Speech Therapy at Daycare and School

Can my child receive speech therapy at their daycare or private school?
Yes! If your child attends one of our participating locations in the Harrisonburg or Loudoun County areas, they may be able to receive outpatient speech therapy during their regular school or daycare day. Contact SLC to learn more about eligibility and availability.

Do I need to bring my child to the clinic for appointments?
No. At participating daycares and private schools, our speech-language pathologists travel to the location to provide therapy services.

Can I use my child’s health insurance?
Yes. These services are provided through our outpatient speech therapy program. Coverage depends on your insurance plan, and our team can help you understand your benefits.

What if we’re currently waiting for an after-school appointment?
Daytime therapy at a participating daycare or private school may provide another scheduling option. Depending on availability, this could allow your child to begin receiving services sooner rather than waiting for an after-school clinic appointment.

Does my child need an IEP to receive speech therapy at a daycare or private school?
No. Our outpatient speech therapy services do not require an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Children may receive services based on their individual speech and language needs.

Can my child receive speech therapy if their daycare or private school isn’t listed?
Currently, we provide on-site services at participating locations. However, we’re always interested in exploring new partnerships with local daycares and private schools. We encourage families and administrators to contact us to discuss potential opportunities.

How do I get started?
Contact The Speech and Language Center to discuss your child’s speech and language needs, insurance coverage, and available appointment options. Our team can help determine whether therapy at a participating location may be a good fit.
