Lilly worked through an overwhelming fear of medical offices in order to attend speech therapy. Her family had scoured the available resources in an effort to support her growth at home, dearly hoping that one day she would be a "little chatterbox" who was more able to communicate her wants and needs with them. That day is finally here for them! If a longer journey through speech and language development has been a part of your story, we hope that their story will remind you that you are not alone.
Speech and Language Therapy
We all need to have a voice, to express ourselves, and to be heard in our world.
Sometimes, all it takes to overcome the obstacles in our way is a little help and a lot of practice. Clients of all ages come to us to find support with a wide variety of communication concerns, such as:
Aphasia
Apraxia
Augmentative and Alternative Communication
Articulation disorders
Cognitive and memory skills
Executive Function skills
Hearing impairment
Language delay/disorders
Phonological disorders
Social and play skills
Stuttering/ fluency disorders
Traumatic Brain Injury
Voice disorders
Caregiver education
Some of our clients have trouble forming certain speech sounds like Ava Grace did, and may face teasing from their peers and a loss of confidence that can be overcome with some very simple, approachable, play-based speech therapy exercises.
Others have important things to say that they want to express somehow, and just need help extending their speaking beyond their current limitations or supplementing with some alternate ways to communicate, such as using pictures or a communication device. Many of our clients seek speech therapy due to a chronic medical condition, or they may have gone through an acute traumatic brain injury, a stroke, or a surgery and need support in retraining the speech-related muscles or parts of their brain to operate together optimally again. Our speech therapists may also work with such clients on cognitive skills that support communication such as memory, processing, and comprehension.
Some of our clients come in wanting to work on fluency because they speak with a stutter, or want to rehabilitate or improve their vocal health and strength. There are social aspects to effective communication as well, and speech therapy also addresses the concerns of clients who want to improve their social communication.
No matter what brought them here, most of our clients and their families experience significant improvements in their quality of life and relationships as they put in the rewarding work of building and honing their skills.
We use evidence-based methods to evaluate and treat a wide variety of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. Our Speech-Language Pathologists all hold Master's Degrees, are licensed in the state, and are nationally certified by ASHA. Our additional certifications and training include:
Beckman Oral-Motor
It Takes Two to Talk: Hanen Program
PROMPT-trained
Extensive training from Talk Tools in methods for treating feeding and swallowing disorders, tongue thrust, and motor based articulation difficulties
Apraxia training by Nancy Kaufman
Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC)
Most importantly though, we want to meet our clients wherever they are, identify their unique strengths and interests to make therapy fun and motivating, and challenge them to reach their goals in a warm and accepting environment.
Contact us for more information, or to schedule an evaluation for yourself or your loved one if you think that speech therapy services would be beneficial in reaching your goals.
